Ok.. I've completed the 2 premiee quilts I was working on

so now 3 CQed quilts are ready for delivery to the local hospital.

And now to some more finishes.. I have a more RR blocks to finish up with and I'd really like to get that stitching on that jean jacket done before neither of my kids can wear the jacket!

I have finally managed to finish a UFO!

This has been sitting waiting for me to add the binding on it for months!

Shame on me I know but I stopped because I had to buy the material for the binding and then never got back to it. But as my New Year Resolution is to get some UFOs into the finished pile... I got to and got this one done!

After that was done I got to and made another quilt top as when these are donated to the hospital I like to have at least 2 crazy patched ones... just because :O)

It will have border strips in the brown, plaid before it's finished and the binding will be done in the dark blue.

The one that came with the extra large baggie of goodies to that wouldn't fit in the cracker and no wonder!

these were on the ends of the cracker and I plan to reuse them on a cracker I make for next year.

The pins in the pincushion came in this cracker and they went immediately to my new pincushion.

All of these 12 Days of Christmas gifts have me spoiled rotten!

But I have to admit that the last two I've enjoyed the most.

... eleven bits so charming.

How charming is that?!?1 as you can see sticking out the top I wasted no time in putting my new Ort Bag to use. I just LOVE it!

Perfect complimentary colours to my living area as well... it's as much decoration as it is useful!

And a big surprise is was indeed... and GORGEOUS!

I have loved these fancy pincushions from a far for some time and now I have one of my very own.

12 Days of Christmas!!!

I'm here wrapping upgifts while my kid sleeps and I get this knock on my

door... now I'm not one to be up in the AM and everyone knows that. So to

have a knock on my door this early in the day was strange to say the least.

But stranger still was to see my parcel delivery lady standing there with a

parcel.. on a SUNDAY!!! Wow...

Anyway.. so as you may have

guessed... it's in... the package I have been waiting for to join the rest of the group opening a gift on each of the 12 Days of Christmas. I got to sit here and enjoy opening 6 packages to
catch up to all the others.

Here are the gifts thus far...

Day One

... a snuggly, warm, cozy pair tree.

Day Two

... two silken treasures.

Day Three

... three flitting fans.

Day Four

... four blooming offings.

Day Five

... five hearts delightful.

Day Six

... six herbal treats.

(Which I promptly enjoyed one!)

After that I snuggled the rest of the packages under my little tree which one last nite was decorated and set up on the top of the desk in the TV room where I do all my stitching and will be enjoying the opening of these gifts each day.

I've also placed my Christmas Crackers under that tree too... and I thought I'd already been spoiled... now all those feelings of being left out are good and I feel doubly blessed.

As a true recycler I am saving the tags from my 12 Days packages to reuse next year. I will keep them close to remind me so that I'll have all yea long to collect items for all the Christmas Swaps and Exchange I so love to do. :O)

Today has proven to be a productive day.

I managed to complete these panels from start to finish for my boys for Christmas.

They both love wolves and as I made them pillows from panels last year I decided to

make hangings from the panel this year.

With all the time I've spent on the panels for the rest of the family I worried I wouldn't get to these...

Christmas Cracker Extras!

I received the second of my 3 Christmas Crackers today... it came in later then the first oen that came today as it was sent UPS and wow what a cracker it is. It's nestled in the branches of my tree along with my first one waiting for Christmas Eve and my quiet time to open them.
In with it came a baggie of things for me to have right away.. and wow was is stuffed too... here are some pictures of the wonderful goodies to add to my stash!

A few More Memorial Panels completed

Things are indeed coming along with the panels. here are 3 more completed ones.
I now have figured out the layout for my Aunt's and Mom's and have one and a little bit left of another of the 6 blocks that will be in theirs. Much smaller blocks though and with bigger pictures so aren't taking as long to embellishd.. I've also decided on mostly embroidery work on them.

Here are two more of the panels completed... I have 4 more ready to finish,, just awaiting the hangers to finish drying before I can use them.

I have 1 more for my Aunt that I'd like to do my best to completed for Christmas... then there are the 2 for my siblings, 1 for another cousin, 6 for the children of these and 1 for my mom. whew... I'm tired just thinking about it all.. LOL

I have posted a few progress pics of the first 3 of these projects which are now complete!

Along with the first 3 I have 2 more completed as well so I've been a busy bee..these 2 are for my own 2 boys.

I have 3 more ready for the finishing touches but have to wait for my son to finish making more hangers... each panel is hung on a hand curved piece of wood which my 12 yo son has curved from tree branches, then stained and varathaned by hand.

I also have 3 more that I need to finish putting together and then of course finishing touches and hangers. SO I've not posted much in the last month but I have been keeping very busy. :O)

Spiders, spiders and more spiders!

Ever since I discovered beaded spiders and that they are a symbol of luck in CQing I like to use them in my projects. So of course I have to put on on each of the Memorial projects.

I decides to make up the spiders ahead for the projects and while doing so I made a couple that really were too big. So I decided to use them along with the Legend of the Christmas Spider story as this year's gift for all the delivery people.

I like to have a small homemade gift for them as a small thank you during the season.

Memorial Wall Hangings

This Christmas I'm making CQed wall hangings... using the clothes that were my grandmother's and some printed pictures of her I've created 3 blocks.

I've then embellished them and will be putting them together and creating a wall hanging out of them.

I will be making a grand total of 13 sets with these same pictures and 3 blocks.. some will be hung across... others will hang down in a line. These will then be given to her 13 Great Grandchildren. I have a total of 6 sets using pictures of both my grandmother and grandfather to make for her 6 Grandchildren. And 2 sets using pics of both as well as a couple other family pics for her two surviving children.

I had hoped to get them all done for this Christmas but as this is just the first set and I only have 1 1/2 months to go I don't see me getting them all done... however I am endeavouring to get half of them completed for Christmas and finishing up the other half after Christmas and sending out the ones that need to mailed to other provinces in the New Year.

Carol's All About Sewing Traditional block

I got to finish the block I was working on for Carol's All About Sewing Traditional RR. She sent around 3 large pieces but with the silkie pics on them that took up most of the room it left little room to embellish. I was the second to work on them and I loved the way Darlene the first participant finished the one piece that I did a similar finishing on the next piece. Leaving the largest of the 3 pieces for the other 2 participants to work on. Here is my work.

I had several evenings of fun working on this block... lots of little bits but the imagination went well. ruby sent a fabric marker for us to mark our initials on the blocks... I used it to outline the sewing machine and then stitched in my online name as I do with my cross stitching.

I had a busy weekend but took some time on Sunday to relax and get a couple of the RR blocks embellish so they can be sent on... esp. as one is really late!

The first one I worked on and the late one.. was Darlene's All About Sewing Traditional RR.. here is a pic of the work I did on her block.

The next one I worked on was Peggy's Fairies, Fairies, Fairies block.... this was the last to be worked on so they will be winging their way home to Peggy before week's end.

I quite enjoyed working on these and looking forward to working on the next... then I will finally be able to get started on the Memorial projects of my Grandmother for the family Christmas gifts. I have 12-15 to make so I sure hope I can get them all done in time!

Here is the fairy block I did for Wendy in our RR. I ended up changing the block I had originally decided to do as inspiration struck at the last moment. Actually I had ideas for ALL the blocks but my butterflies made the decision for me as they went perfectly with this block... I went with what I hope is like looking thru the opening in the brush to e the fairy and had to include a mushroom button to which a fairy is dancing around :)

I'm praying that when I get these sent out that they will arrive in time as the deadline for these to be in the coordinators hands is the 31st of Aug.

One of these will be picked by the coordinator as her postal bribe so that leaves at least 2 of the snowflake snowmen that several of the ladies loved when I made them for the center of my Winter RR blocks :)

Meg's Winter RR block

It has been some time since I posted and I know I've missed a few pictures of blocks but I will endeavour at a later date to figure out which ones are missing an post them then.

Today I have Meg finished Winter RR block. It took some doing to get it done and spent a fair amount of time deciding on what to do... I guess the thought of Winter just in't appeal to me.. especially as we haven't had much of a Summer this year... it's raining today again!

I went with using the white patch as ground covered in snow and then added a trim to give it some interest and added buttons and made 2 snowmen. I added a little trim to give each a scarf.

I then added a couple buttons to the woolly centre as well as a trim at the top to look like a fur collar.

I then covered the rest in all different snowflakes. I think the final result is quite Wintery. It did give me back the bug to work on my CQing RR blocks so I got started on another last nite.. with luck I will finish it tonite so it can be mailed out this week.

Finished CQed Canadian Flag

As pictures are worth a thousand words and I'm no writer.. Here's a pic of the CQed Canadian Flag I finally quilted up. I did a simple zigzag stitch to quilt it and then put on the pins I've collected so far.

I intend to continue collecting up the pins from all of the Canadian provinces and territories to add to the flag.

I've put together a USA CQed flag for my best friend (whom I've never met in person) ooops she reads my blog from time to time so I guess the secrets out on it.

Still it could get a bit yet before I get it finished. I have some patches to add to it and may do a bit of embroidery though I think it would be better to collect up state pins to put on it like I'm doing with mine :)

Wow I have gotten behind on things. I have 3 blocks.. all the ones that go to Japan all completed and ready to show off.

The first is of the Mourning Heart for Hideko. I was really impressed myself with the way it came out.

Then is the pink kimono girl. I loved the green thread on the pale ink soo much I decided to use it on all the seams and embellished with pink beads. I absolutely love the way this one came out.Finally we come to the green kimono girl. I decided to surrounded her with flowers and added a few butterflies and dragonflies as well as a couple fans.

I was also able to get my heart block put together for Hideko. I've already stuck the red roses where they'll be going. This will be outlined in a silver trim.. after that I'll see what I come up with :)

Heart and Hands naked blocks

Today I have finally gotten back to my sewing machine and made a couple new blocks for the Heart and Hands project with the CQI group. First is the pale pink background with a yellow printed kimono highlighted with fushia and burgundy sash.I then did another one with the fushia background and highlighted the kimono with yellow and green sash. These patchwork blocks were then used in the center of the block and I used the same background fabric so the kimono girl would stand out.

These blocks will be used in quilts to help raise funds for those in the Japan earthquake.

Summer Dreams Wall Hanging

It used to be that when the gardening began then the needlework was set aside. and to be honest there's not been much happening of late but I'm determined to get back at it! In the meantime I've finally finished a sewing project. These blocks were done in a RR with ladies from the CQI group. It now hangs where my spring wall hanging was in the hopes that it will encourage the warmer weather to come and stay for a while.

The first is a Winter block for Thearica. I decided to work it all in white and crystal for a wintery effect. The second is a Fairies block for Laurie. I fell in love with the purple in this block so I had to work on it.

Darlene's Tea Time Traditional RR

Here is my work on Darlene's Traditional RR. the little
table runner she had on it just cried out to be to be prettied up so I stitched it down in place by the lace with a silver braid from Kreinik. then added charms and flowers and stitched in the Tea Time. I added a row of flowers to the left and bottom of the runner and to the right and bottom I created a lace fan. There is also a lazy daisy seam treatment below the runner by the row of flowers.Here is a picture of the full block WIP.

I've dived right in with my crazy quilting method to finish panels for Angel Quilt Project (AQP).

Here's the first one!

In the middle of finishing the second one I remembered needing to get the laundry bag done for a sister missionary leaving for her mission next week so Sunday will be the last day I can get it to her. I got it done though!

Spring is Sprung finished wall hanging!

I was feeling a little down today so decided to work on putting together my wall hanging with all the fabulous blocks that the ladies did for my Spring is Sprung Wall Hanging. Click here to view a larger picture.

Though I didn't end up using the large butterfly motif that inspired me for this block I do like the final result of it. This one is for Rita for our Autumn RR.This one is for my own Spring is Sprung. Now that it's complete I can get my sewing machine going and make it into the planned wall hanging. As Spring is here and we still have snow it'll be a great addition to the decor in my own.

Alice's Winter/Holiday block

I almost did the block with the tree when these blocks came to me but then I realized I really didn't have anything to decorate the tree which was my first thought. when it came time to get started I looked at the blocks again and the one with the blank green center just cried out for some cross stitch... perhaps my passion for cross stitching was in need... wasn't sure what but it wanted something! I then went o my Sam hawkins motifs book and the first one I loved was this Santa. I thought it was too big so loked for another. I foud one that said Christmas is Love but then re-measured and went with the Santa thinking he would fit. I was wrong but I made it work by letting his cap hang over but stopped the stitching of his beard so it looked like he was coming up from behinf the bottom block. I then went to my embellishing stash to see what would go with it... I pulled out several things and then has the bright idea that he neeed his sack! It was the teddy bear button that gave me that inspiration. So I dug into the bag of scraps to find some green and cut pieces several times before I came up with the half circle that would give he effect I was looking for. The spider and web was going to go on the other side where the bag went but with no room and no thread to make the flower i wanted to put there that's were he landed. After that it was seam treatments and few trinkets. the mirror was crazy glued onto the back of the jewerlly piece and each stream of beads added by hand. I sure hope Alice enjoyed the piece as much as i enjoyed creating it for her. I'm so glad I have pictures of it!

Lots of Eye Candy to see

Seems I've missed putting up a pic about one of my latest CQed RR blocks... so here it is along with the latest 2. :)
First up we have a Winter block for Ritva. Her's are all done in white, cream, gold and browns. The other's in the group have done some real fancy work so mine was kept to simple clean look. I think :)Next up we have Cathy's Autumn block. I copied another CQer's idea of using a doily for a spider web. Mine is much smaller then the others but I think it turned out great!And lastly we have a real fun block. This is Laura's English Garden/Tea Time block. I'd gotten the tea set I used on this block some time ago and wondered when I'd ever use them. As cute as they were they just didn't go with anything... until this block... they seemed to got perfectly! so lots of flowers with yellow face beads to bring out their smiles and bright butterflies and a ladybug as well. A couple seam treatments and then making the swirls around the wand in gold along with the outlining of the clouds, stars and moon in gold and i think the block came out looking like a fairy tale garden at tea time. :)

Here is a close up the center that I just LOVE. It's my first time for embellishing flowers like this and though it took a lot of the specialty thread it was wel worth it. Now I just have to get more for making some on my own blocks LOL Here's the whole block. I used a found object on this block. It's a small piece of chain that I added beads too with the thought of hanging garden lights in mind. I think it turned out cute!.

Ok as promised a few pictures of the blocks I haven't posted about yet. These first two are from the Victorian Tea Cats Quilt. they are blocks #3 and #4 seeing as I've lost my pics I don't have a naked block pic of #2 as it's already been worked on... near done actually.

These next two are from the Fairy Quilt Wall Hanging. This first one was nearly all embellished by Wendy F. who graciously offered to so some work for me on one of these blocks. She did a fabulous job and only left a few little areas for me to add a few bits and of course a fairy charm.

This one I've done all on my own. :)

I'm starting a new RR soon called "Fairies Fairies Fairies" and I've decided to use 3 of these blocks rather then 6 6" blocks so that I can finish this Wallhanging while working on other things as well and to get LOTS of different finishes to this piece!

Update on Chef Tiger

Wow.. it's been a long while since I last posted... It's been a depressing time here and cabin fever isn't helping in the least!

We lost a dear friend and brother in the church just last week. Another harassed of the terrible weather we had for over a week. He's just left home for a trip a couple hours away when he lost control of of his car and head on in the path of a transport. Jean Marie Belliveau will be greatly missed.

Though I have been working on a cross stitch piece it's not something I can share as it's a new design that'll be released next month. In the meantime I can share the little quilt I finished up making today. It's a Rag Tag doll quilt. Simply laid out in any pattern even if it is a crazy patch. Then pinned into place and layered with quilt patting and a backing. Then I just zig zag all the pieces which quilts it at the same time. then trim edges and add a binding.

Here is a close up view of the zig zag quilting all done in pink to add more pink to the quilt. :)

I do have a couple of finishes of naked blocks as well as a fairy block finish to post as well so I will endeavor to find those photos and upload ASAP. :)

Ritva's Spring is Sprung

The ribbon above the hummingbird Shrink button was my inpiration on this block. It matched perfectly with the flower motif I hand dyed for another project but it just didn't look right for it. I'd been watching for just the right one to put it on as it's one of my favourite ones I did. I think it's found it's home here. :)

Shrink Buttons!

Today I had a little fun introducing my son to Shrink Art! I printed out a couple sheets of what I will be using as buttons for Crazy Quilting, cut them out and just said, "Watch!" as I put them in the oven. It took a minute but then I was able to say, "There they go!" After the first batch my son helped me put the holes in the second batch and even wanted to see what would happen to the bit that was bunched out.

I now have 2 dozen buttons in my collection of Shrink Buttons for my Crazy Quilting projects... some of these I have plans for and some will be used for a button swap I'm in. I'll soon be making more!

Painted Cupcake Banks

The owner of a small group that I'm in asked if anyone would be able to help her with some crafting that she'll be using as gifts... she loves to spoil both kids and ladies alike. So I offered to help out if I could.

We decided on these cute little cupcake banks that needed to be painted. They did come with paints but I'm a little more particular with my crafting so I picked up a few more paints to go with what I already had on hand as the ones that came with were too small and took thick. They were meant for kids to use after all.

There's 12 in all and she wanted 6 for girls and 6 for boys. I not only used Varathane on them once they were finished being painted but I used a glitter glue on the tops of the 6 for girls to add a little sparkle to them.

I love the way they came out so much I had to share a couple pictures. :)

Colleen's Autumn RR block

Last nite I finished up another RR block. This time an autumn themed one for Colleen. I wen twith seam treatments only for this one as that's the mood I was in.. but kept within the colours of Autumn.

We're having yet another winter storm here in Northern NB... what a way to have a Valentine's Day. So I'll be whipping up some cookies and jello with my son and enjoying some quiet game playing time and then some relaxing stitching. I'll leave the housework for tomorrow :)

Darlene's Winter/Holiday CQed block

Tea Time with Gram and Grandpa in CQing!

Today I spent some time searching for just the right thing to do for another Tea Time RR. This is to be a tradational one so each participant works on the same piece. While searching I found a new site. One which I will be using frequently from now on I'm sure!

Using the site.. http://imikimi.com/ ... this is the printed picture I came up with. The name piece I created using MS Publisher.

This is the panel crazy quilt patched and ready for embellishing. I've begun by putting a fan motif over a spot that didn't quite cover. :)

Lastly I finally made my first fan using material. The white eyelet lace looked so good with the white fan motif that I went with it. :)

Victorian Tea Cats Quilt WIP block #1

This is the WIP pic of the first of 12 CQed blocks that will be in this quilt. Our first Victorian Symbol is the Spider and Wed often found on Crazy Quilt for luck. I'm not one for spiders or bugs of any kind but when I first saw this beaded spider I fell in love with it. I've done several since then and just had to have one on this quilt. There may be more on other block too as I seen another one last nite where the web is very prettily done.
As you can see there are some empty spaces and seams. I'm looking for a dragonfly for the cream patch in the corner to go with the dragonfly the cat in the center is watching, and of course finish up with the seam treatments.

Two more CQed RR blocks completed

I just now finished up on all the blocks that I have on hand in all the RRs I'm in.

First up is Wendy's Winter block. Lots of snowflakes as requested with a cute snowman in the center of it all. As it's winter full force around here it wasn't hard to think cold, snow and ice!

And the first block for this RR... Kerry's Tea time. I hope I've captured the feeling of a pretty tea party for two friends in this block. Surrounded with the scent of roses.

Spring has Sprung for Cathy

Last nite I finished up with Cathy's Spring block in the RR Spring Is Sprung. It was a fun one and I challenged myself to try a couple different things including a new variation on the buttonhole stitch.

More RR blocks completed

First up is Dee's Fall/Autum RR block. This one brought to mind Halloween so I thought of decorating at Halloween. Spiders adorn the web fabrics and the pumpkin patch sign, wagon, leaf and pumpkin buttons were in a special packet I bought with this block in mind. The center swatch is surrounded with a black trim that goes in all directs as does the block. I added a touch more of the blue purple from the center block throughout the block in seam treatments and added a star to the center. Next is Beryl's Summer Dreams block. What fun this was!! The other blocks in this RR that were done each had a dragon fly so I had to add one too. Ok more then one. :) After that is was flowers all the way as I was thinking of a lazy summer afternoon in my backyard surrounded in all the flowers I love to plant and grow. Often dragonflies and butterflies dance around near buy and this past summer I picked up a set of what looked like seagulls so I added 2 to this block as we often have seagulls come around, especially as soon as we throw the hot dog, hamburger and other bread crust pieces for them to feed on. To finish off this block I had to use on of my smile buttons and I chose the one with the shades and surrounded it with silk ribbon to make a sun.

Victorian Tea Cats - block #1 - naked

Here's the first block for the Victorian Tea Cats Quilt. I used block #10 from Vintage Voque as inspiration to do the crazy quilting as I liked the purple patch to do the spider web I'll be doing on this block. Keep watching for updates on this block and all the others to come in this quilt. I plan to do one CQed block and one plain with doily and cross stitching on it each month for the 12 months of 2011 that Crazy Quilting International group is doing the 12 months of Victorian Symbology. So each month's block I'll be featuring that' month's symbol. :)

That's the work I this morning. Next post will show what I did for the afternoon and evening. :)

Winter Wallhanging

This past weekend I finally got the naked blocks put together for yet another RR I'm in with the Crazy Quilting International group. These little guys will be winging their way to the first participant this week.

In these blocks I made use of 2 of the pieces of fabric that came in my Christmas Cracker 2010. The peach and the green.. they were much better matches then the ones I had on hand. The lavender is from an order I got from a great lady at Lisa's Heaven you can still get some great craft supply deals on her website. www.lisasheaven.com

The snowflake motifs are a freebie design I collected years ago from Kreinik.

THREE Round Robin blocks

Now that Christmas is over it was time to get caught up on the RR blocks I've had sitting waiting for me all month long! First one is Helina's Autumn block which I did very simply. Hard to be creative when at that time of the year I've a busy bee with the harvest and canning for the winter food storage. I did however have to put on a mushroom button as she'd mentioned in her note that she loved mushrooms and I just knew the leaf beads had to go on hear too. The beaded seam are from the same item. A beaded tie back from the Dollarama! It's not all pricey in this hobby :)

I then got right to work on the one that inspired me the most. SUMMER!!!! At the time I was thinking is was a spring but summer is when I do most of my gardening.. I was thinking sunny days, butterflies, flowers and playing in the dirt. I had such fun with this block! This is thw work I did on Cathy's block:

Lastly we come to Colleen's Spring is Sprung. I went mostly with flowers and then a couple butterflies alighted near the flowers. I stayed within the colour theme of the block. And now to get those Winter RR blocks sewn together! There's always another project just sitting waiting to be completed. :)

final Christmas Cracker

Today I had my 3rd and final Christmas Cracker arrive... and what fun! This package came all the way from Portugal... a place that holds a special place in my heart. I had a boyfriend from Portugal and he and I are still dear friends.

This is what Maria sent me. I love the lace idea for edging the block she made for the outside of the cracker. I may just do that myself next year!

I had an absolutely wonderful time opening up my 2 of the 3 to be recieved Christmas Crackers. My first one was from Linda M. Who spoiled me absolutely rotten and I loved every second of it! Here's the before pic!I first opened the little box parcel and found a container that the cover had a little CQed finished piece on it and inside was a wonder selection of tatting motifs.!! I absolutely love tattying but have not time to learn the craft myself so I'm thrilled with having a selection to use in my own CQing. Then came the hand dyed silk ribbons. I have just started using silk ribbon myself have but 3 colours in my stash... til now! They even came with some printed bobbins to wrap the ribbons one!. .... then came chocolate!! ... a beautiful tea towel with tatting on the edge and a a stitched snowman on it... and fabrics... and all this before the cracker was even opened! Here's a collage of the pictures of the packages.Here's a pic of all the goodies found inside the cracker! oohhh the fun I will have finding places to use all these wonderful goodies. Then came the cracker from Ely A. I LOVE the double sided fabrics and I'm looking forward to using these pieces and utilizing both sides of the fabric! There was lots of goodies inside too. A little baggies of buttons and beads... the flower shaped beads I've seen before and wanted but held off on getting any. Now I have some!

Thank you ladies for making my Christmas Eve a truly fun one! I chose Christmas Eve to open mine as that was the time I would be able to truly enjoy them... I still have them out to look at! :)

And the best part is I still have one more to come in!!

Vintage Tea Time (naked blocks)

Today I put together the blocks for the Tea Time RR that I'm doing with the Crazy Quilting International Group. Mine are a Vintage Tea Time theme. I used vintage table runners and hankies to make the blocks around cross stitched vintage tea cups stitched on a vintage linen.

Sending out with these blocks will be another corner of the hankies used with the tatting on the edges for each participant to use in their embellishing along with a good selection of pastel buttons from the ones I inherited from my grandmother.

I hope ot have each participant use the corner of hanky and some buttons on each of the blocks.

Once these are completed and back to me and I've finished working on the last block for me to do I will then be making these into a padded book similar to one I've seen pictures of that another CQer made.

CQed Lap Quilt for my SS Karen

Yesterday I finished off this quilt for my Secret Sister and got it in the mail. I hope to hear from her this coming week to see what she thinks of her final gift. This is for a group where we have one gal to spoil for 3 months at a time. :)On this quilt I lovingly stitched one and a half dozen buttons from the 3 tins of buttons I inherited from my grandmother's home after she passed away.

I should also point out that it's laying across my double bed and almost reaches each side. It's a square lap quilt approximately 48".

Update and Christmas CQed blocks

Wow has it been a world wind couple of weeks! It all started off when my grandmother was admitted to hospital in a coma. That was Oct 22 and late on the 25th she passed never having regained consciousness. She had a massive stroke. She had one 3 years ago so we knew this was coming and at the age of 92 years young she lived a long and wonderful life. She lived on her own since my grandad past in Feb '82 and was still living on her own til the day she died. Just the was she wanted it!

She'd not want us to wallow in sadness so as soon as I could I got back to work at the daily things I needed to do and get myself caught up on the stitching that I'd gotten behind on.

Today I finished the 2nd block in a RR for Winter/Christmas theme and I've been loving them!

I've already sent out the first but here's a pic of it. This one is for Debbie.

She wanted a more Victorian theme, which was challenging for me. I first had to do a fan as they are Victorian to me. This one I dyed green and used pearl drop beads for the bottom. I then did some surfing for some inspiration and came up with the dove and ribbon. I used a butterfly lace motif to create it and added a few hearts around it. I had to put on a cameo button as the finishing touch after adding in some stitched and beaded snowflakes a little garland looking seam treatment and a hand dyed flower motif I dyed myself.

The next block I did is for Cathy. This one I thoroughly enjoyed working on for 3 straight nites. I'm almost sorry it's finished .. LOL To start with I embellished the silkes using wool thread for the fur trims and gold accents on hat and dress. A bit later I did the flowers as well. I kept within the 4 colours within the block and loved the way the little doll looked as it reminded me of the old fashion Christmas gifts little girls got, which is what came to mind seeing the little girl silkie... an old fashioned Christmas. I used several lazy daisy chains thinking of the paper garlands and of course more snowflakes for this block too. I did several different seam treatments for a busy but pretty and sparkley block I think. :)

Helina's Spring is Spring

Helina's Summer Dreams RR block

Yesterday I received 2 sets of RR blocks. As Helina sends to me for both of these RR's the blocks for her Spring is Sprung and Summer Dreams both arrived at in the same envelope.

One of her Summer Dreams blocks caught my eye and I immediately saw a gold outline and beaded accents to the purple butterfly... I love butterflies and purple is my favourite colour so I went with it!

I enjoyed a long night of fun! I finished it last nite! So here are some eye candy for you to see.

Halloween Stitching!

Yep I've been at it again!

This evening I was back playing with fabric and got put together both my Spring Has Sprung and Summer Dreams naked blocks completed :).

Here are pics of them in their layouts...

Of course like the Fall ones these may not necessarily be all in the same direction as again I made them all the same.. .it's so much quicker this way! LOL Not to mention there's less waste of fabrics and thread as I can go thru each block and put the first seam in each one and then clip smaller threads.

The Spring one will have a green background though I'll have to go on a search for the fabric as I don't have in what I want to use.

The Summer one will have the same flower print with the sunny yellow background as in the blocks which is why I made sure that one wasn't on the edge of the blocks.

CQ Fall Wallhanging RR

I've been inspired! I was in a mood of not knowing what I wanted to do.. I spent some time outside enjoying the wonderful weather and relaxing but then decided I needed to do something. I came in to get on with some stitching but decided I really didn't want to sit still just yet.

So I pulled out the fabrics I picked up recently for my Fall/Autumn RR. I went with the .6 M remnant piece that was in stripes of several different prints. I cut it in half and then cut each strip so that I have all the different prints. I then folded each strip to have 3 pieces and then cut them to make 6 all pretty much the same shape and size. So these were all made out of one .3M piece of fabric!

I then decided to make life easy and make each block the same and arranged the piles of pieces til I was satisfied they'd cover the blocks I was making.

Here's what the final 6 naked blocks look like.

Though I've not decided which they will go for now I've placed them all the same way. I will be letting each of the embellishers in the RR who will be working on them decide which way they'd like to put their block. I rather like the idea of them going in different ways.

CQ Christmas Ornie & Wallhanging

Today I've been spending time on my sewing... not only did I get a CQ Ornie finished up... here's the pic :)

But I also pieced together the blocks for an upcoming RR. This one is a Winter/Christmas theme and I went with the Christmas for mine. Here's the naked blocks put together to show how I will be putting them together when they return completed. Won't be for this year but I can look forward to decorating with it next year :)

Robert's Birthday

My son isn't one for parties and lots of attention on him. So this year we did it simple. I spent the money I would have spent on a party on an electric keyboard with lots of trimmings, which will be put to use once September comes and he begins his piano lessons.

On his birthday which was Sunday, the day after his baptism, we were able to make it to church. It was another hot day. We'd planned ahead for the trip as it's an hour's drive to the chapel and hoped the weather would give us some time at the beach.

We made it and we both came back with sunburns!

Robert's Baptism

I'm a proud mom! My son, Robert chose to be baptized this past weekend. He chose a nature setting and we ending up where my brother was baptized years ago. A dear friend now lives there so we had a BBQ afterwards which I forgot to take pictures of :(

Secret Sister's CQed Apron and Hotpads

I've finally finished my August gift for my Secret Sister. One of the things on her list was aprons... so I went with her favourite colours: pink, yellow and red... and come up with this!

I think it turned out beautifully. I so hope she likes it.

Maureen's Pretty in Pink RR Block

I had a wonderful time the other day staying out of the hear. I went thru my stasha nd found LOTS of ideas to do on Maureen's RR block. I settled for but a few of them as I had to save room for Mary to do some. :)

The first thing I picked out was my favourite motif these days... the fan. I decided to tea-dye it so that it was more to the colours used on this block. I think it turned out perfect. I embellished it with beads across the top as I have with the others but this one I decided on making a ribbon bow and beaded tassle with hearts on the ends of them. I'm thrilled with the way it came out and plan on doing another on my Victorian Cats planned quilt. :)

I did another ribbon bow to tie up the heart lock and key charms. I wanted to find something to do on the fabric with the diamond shapes and I think the bead and sequin fans that I put in place did the trick.

I used a bit of lace trim and added a couple of little purple flower motifs to bring the pruple around to that corner and the flower motif beside it worked well to balance the darker colour of the fans.

I used a simle seam stitch on the seam between the fan and flower motifs and thena simple line of beads on the seam by the diamond fabric.

I hope Maureen likes what I've done... I sure enjoyed working on it!

Valerie's CQ block

I had a hard time stopping myself from working on this here block. So many of the same colours as I'm working with for my fairy blocks so I had LOTS of colours, charms, buttons, etc, etc out already. And then I had some new stuff come in!

Here we get a little closer to the work I did on this block :)

I started off with cross stitching the birdhouse motif with a little dragon fly above. Later I added the vine and leaves all around and attached the little purple flower motifs.

Then I used the beads of a new beaded trim and attached them across one of the patches.

Here I attached a cluster of buttons and beads... did a couple more seam treatments and added in some butterfly beads and then there's my FAVOURITE part...the fan motif which I then embellished with beads and sequin flowers. I love the way it came out soo much I redid it again on one of my fairy blocks. :)

Hi folks!

I recently was given was Canadian themed fabrics and had this crazy idea to use a cute little panel that was designed by Frishawn... my BFF. Here is what I came up with. I sewed it up this afternoon.

I used bigger pieces of fabric then I usually use for crazy quilting but think it turned out well.

I've been having lots of fun the past two days. I've been sewing to my hearts content even though my back is paying the price it is better today then it was yesterday and considering I've been down with a cold I'm not complaining because other then a little cough I feel much better!

I've been working on more fairy crazy quilt blocks and have managed to get 8 more completed! That gives me 9 with the FFT#13 block for the RR. I'll have 3 more to do up as I figure I'll need at least 12 total to make a quilt for my bed.

I'll take some time to complete I know but I'm enjoying watching each step. :)

I've made up my mind on this project! I've decided to make it a 9 block wallhanging and hang it at the head of my bed as I don't have a headboard. Then I'll be able to admire it daily. Once it's done that is. :)
